Who are we...?

What a bunch! - 2025

The story so far...

When AllStars started in 2008, some of our earliest students were just 8 or 9 years old.

Today, several of those students have grown into talented young musicians and returned as tutors, helping the next generation discover the same fulfilment, skills and opportunities that music brought them.

For us, that's one of the most rewarding parts of the AllStars story.

Music is important to us, but seeing young people grow into capable, creative and caring adults is even more special.

Our outlook:

Our ethos is reflected in our name – AllStars.

Whatever their starting point, we want every student to feel valued, capable and able to shine in their own way.

That's why we focus on participation, creativity and real musical experiences from the very beginning.

Right from day one, all students are playing as part of the band alongside their tutors, not just learning musically, but building social skills, self-belief and life skills that stay with them long after lessons end.

Family support:

We don't ask for any long-term commitment from our customers but we're in it for the long-term.

We aim to build relationships with families that can adapt to changing schedules, new interests and all the twists and turns of family life that can otherwise cause young learners to give up activities they enjoy.

We're incredibly proud of students who have grown up with us over many years, from primary school right through to university.

Your tutors:

We look for tutors who are not only excellent musicians, but excellent role models.  Young people who are approachable, encouraging, patient and able to relate naturally to students at different ages and stages.

Each brings their own mix of musical interests, experience, personality and creative energy to the rockschool. Some perform professionally, some study music, production or drama, some write and record their own material, or for other artists.

Those that learned at AllStars as children know instinctively what it feels like to be the child in the room.

Parents often tell us how much they value this, as our tutors are often still close enough in age to feel relatable, whether the chat turns to favourite bands, choosing schools, gaming, GCSEs or simply teenage life.

Above all, they create the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that makes AllStars tick.

Of course musical ability is critical — but kindness, warmth and a healthy sense of humour are equally vital.  Because for many students, their interest in music grows into something bigger - a sense of connection, identity and belonging.

A Place To Be ... Yourself!

In a world where many young people feel pressure to always look polished or “get things right”, we try to create a place where students can relax, be themselves and enjoy being part of something real.

Students are encouraged to experiment, make mistakes, laugh, learn on their feet and grow naturally in confidence — without pressure to be perfect.

Our classes are mixed ages, mixed instruments and mixed abilities, with students joining at different stages and progressing in their own way. That means there’s little concern about “who’s best” or keeping up with everyone else.

Older students aren’t automatically the most advanced, younger students aren’t seen as “less”, and everyone is free to try new things without feeling judged or compared.

Instead of music becoming another place built around status or approval, it becomes somewhere students can connect, express themselves and simply enjoy learning alongside others.

Over time, we often see young people grow into themselves — becoming more comfortable in who they are and more willing to be seen, musically and socially.

These are their formative years.
